A Clinical Study of Airway Managements on Head, Neck and Facial Trauma Patients

Abstract
When the urgency state, airway obstruction on head, neck and facial trauma patients, causes the death or the severe general dysfunction and definitive diagnosis, decision and management of airway obstruction on them are peformed.
If the patient is able to communicate verbally, the airway is not likely to be in immediate jeopardy. however repeated assessment of airway patency is prudent. Additionally, severe head injury patients with an altered level of consciousness or Glassgow Coma Scale(GCS) score 8 or less usually require the placement of a definitive airway.
The study of hospital airway management on head, neck and facial trauma patients is vigorously in progress with objective research data, but it is true that the study of prehospital airway management on them is poor. Because it is difficult to collect objective research data and it is performed mostly by non-medical persons.
This paper is the proper prehospital airway managements from the results of an analysis 50 head, neck and facial trauma patients treated for airway patency in Department of Otolaryngology in Capital Army Forces General Hospital from Jan. 1993 to Dec. 1995 with review of literatures.
